Maximuscle Zef Eisenberg interview Mens Fitness Magazine
Zef Eisenberg was one of four experts to be interviewed about the benefits of sports nutrition for Men's Fitness magazine. Here's a short extract from the full article:
Zef Eisenberg, who founded sports nutrition manufacturer Maximuscle 15 years ago, says recent advances have made it harder to buy poor-quality products by mistake. "When I started, it was all powdered skimmed milk and glucose tablets, which are laughably unsophisticated by today's standards," he says.
The two biggest advances-whey protein isolate and creatine-have benefited the consumer, according to Eisenberg. "The good news is that since real advances such as whey protein isolate came into play, a lot of the dubious products have fallen out of the market," he says. "They've actually strengthened it; only huge companies can afford the massive investments needed to properly research and produce supplements. The smaller players have been squeezed out. The consumer still has plenty of choice, but he's choosing between a handful of trustworthy brands rather than a market flooded with dubious products."
Not all products are independently tested for ingredients that professional athletes are banned from using, but it's worth knowing what you should look for, just in case you do get called up for the 2012 Olympics. Look out for products that quote a doping-free policy and are tested to ISO 17025 standards. And it should go without saying that if a product you stumble across on the Internet sounds too good to be true, it almost always is.
Maximuscle is one of the few sports nutrition companies to test to ISO 17025 standards. You can read more about our strict quality control procedures here.
