World Champion Tony Montalbano
Maximuscle sponsor Tony Montalbano has just won 2006 Musclemania Worlds held in the USA. This was a fantastic end to a great year for Tony.
When I first heard the American Natural Federation Musclemania was back in the country after 6 years I knew I wanted to compete. I had not been interested in qualifying for a British title but this was different, it was perfect. I had not competed since I won the British Lightweight title in 2003.
As well as wanting to compete in a different environment I wanted to see if I had made improvements after a 3 year lay off.
As the UK Musclemania Qualifier drew near it was announced two multi title British & World champions would be in the line up, this would be the toughest competition I had faced. I expected nothing more than 3rd or 4th so when it was announced I was 2nd I was completely shocked.
The number one thing I took from the show is that I have improved & that’s what it is all about.
I had done what I had set out to do so that was it for me, I was going to call it a day, but then I got an invitation to compete in The N.P.A Mike Williams Pro-Am, I could not say no. I went on to win my weight class and the overall in the Mike Williams Classic, I then entered the Pro –Am, which is contested immediately after the Mike Williams Classic. Only the top natural bodybuilders in the country are invited to enter the Pro-AM. I could not believe it, I won the overall Mike Williams Classic and the Pro-Am I was thrilled to bits as I beat some of the top natural bodybuilders in the country. I won the biggest title you can win on a natural stage in Britain.
In two weeks time it would be the N.P.A British Finals. The last week before the Britain was the hardest week of dieting but it paid off and I won the British title for the second time.
The Musclemania Worlds was the icing on the cake. What a year! I had won the Mike Williams Classic Lightweight and Overall titles, the Mike Williams Pro-Am, the Bristish Lightweight title and last but not least I was world champion, winning the Musclemania Bantamweight title in Los Angeles. Words cannot describe how I feel!
