Jon is World Champion!

Maximuscle sponsor Jon Harris has just won the top prize at the highly prestigious 2006 WNBF Pro World Bodybuilding Championships. The show, which is arguably the largest and most competitive natural competition in the world, was held in New York City on 11th November and attracted over 200 entries.

Every athlete was drug tested using urinalysis and polygraph (lie detector) techniques to ensure a fair and even playing field. In a closely fought battle against some tough international opposition, Jon defeated 43 other men to capture the middleweight and overall titles, narrowly beating fellow middleweight favourite and 2006 Pro U.S. Cup champion Clarence McGill in a nail-biting finish, before going head to head in the overall against lightweight champ Luis Santiago and three-time world heavyweight champ Ben Tennessen. At the conclusion of the show, Jon's 173-pound combination of muscularity, balanced development, conditioning and presentation secured him the win in the eyes of the judges. This was Jon's third attempt at capturing the title, having finished runner-up in both 2003 and 2004. Jon's win will ensure the title remains in Great Britain for a fourth year in succession, following on from the reign of legendary bodybuilders Nigel Davis and Rob Hope.

"Winning this title has been a life-long ambition. Ever since I began competing at the age of seventeen I have always dreamed of becoming World Champion one day. Every contest I won, or even lost for that matter, brought me one step closer to this goal. Now that it's finally happened, some 14 years later, I can hardly believe it! For anyone with dreams of achieving any goal, I say just keep chipping away, learn from past mistakes and most importantly, believe in yourself. It took me three attempts to pass my driving test, three times to win the British title, and now three times to win the worlds. It appears I seem to do things in threes!"
