Hope destroys the competition with a Powerlifting world record.
In a journey back in time to the "good old days" when bodybuilders not only looked big, but had the strength to go with it, top Maximuscle sponsee Rob Hope placed first in his class in the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association's unequipped British Powerlifting championships on Sunday 9th May 2004.
Incredibly, with a deadlift of 260 kilograms (572 pounds), Hope set an official world record! He would have set a world record in the squat as well, but his lift of 222.5 kilograms (489.5 pounds) was only an unofficial world record...
Hope forgot to register his lift with the international judges before he lifted!
The British Drug Free Powerlifting Association was formed in 1989 with the express purpose of providing an alternative national platform for drug-free Competition.
The BDFPA is affiliated to the World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation, and is the only UK powerlifting organization recognised by the international body.
